Glaschu Spirits Co. are becoming well known for their innovative cask finishes and unique maturation styles, with each bottle's amazing label, having been inspired by Scotland’s rich engineering heritage, architecture and also its stunning scenery.

We were delighted to welcome co-founder Paul Jamieson to the island recently, where he hosted a fantastic tasting event for us at Stornoway Golf Club, where we were delighted to sample 7 drams from their latest release of exquisite whisky's .

Ardnamurchan (Peated) 5: Oloroso Sherry Maturation

Nose:
Roasted coffee beans, tart cherry juice, earthy, leather pub jacket
Taste:
Spiced fruitcake, molasses, dark chocolate, medjool dates, blood orange
Finish:
Long, warming, assertive. Smoky, spiced embers

For the artwork on this release, They have featured John Cobb's Crusader - a jet powered racing boat, built in 1949. They have shown the Crusader speeding towards the bay of Ardnamurchan peninsula, with the distillery in view.

Peallach (Tobermory) 10: Ximenez-Spinola PX Finish

Nose:
Smouldering maple wood, bruleéd figs, cherry liqueur, beach walk
Taste:
Dark chocolate, sticky toffee pudding, candied orange, spiced plum, and sweet peat
Finish:
Long, smouldering, indulgent, honeyed dates

The artwork on this release shows a Boeing Stearman bi-plane approaching the bay of Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull. A similar aircraft resides at the Island’s only airfield, Glenforsa. Tobermory is famous for its row of colourful houses, visible in the artwork, along with the distillery at the left hand side of the bay.

Strathdearn (Tomatin) 10: Madeira Wine Finish

Nose:
Amaretto, cinnamon and dried apricot
Taste:
Apricot and orchard fruits, caramel popcorn, pastel de nata and an oaky spice
Finish:
Rich, sticky sweet

For the artwork design on this Strathdearn release, they have featured the 'Viperfish', a fiberglass submarine, self-built by US Navy submariner, Dan Taylor, in the 1960's. Taylor scoured the depths of Loch Ness in his Viperfish, on the hunt for the elusive monster...

Teaninich 13: Saint Emilion Red Wine Barrique

Nose:
Mulled wine, harvest hay, light hint of liquorice
Taste:
Raspberry jam on toast, dried red fruits, tarragon and toffee
Finish:
Sweet and spicy finish, malty cereal

The label artwork features the iconic Hillman Imp. A rally-spec'd, Scottish-built car from the 1960's, seen drifting round a dirt track adjacent to the river Alness, at Teaninich Distillery.

GlenAllachie 10: Pedro Ximenez Maturation

Nose:
Caramel, toasted brioche bun, cherry preserve, sandalwood
Taste:
Chocolate fudge brownie, juicy flame raisins, treacle
Finish:
Rich and complex, sticky sweet

For the artwork on this release, they have chosen to feature the Ecurie Ecosse racing team. A Scottish motor racing team from the 1950’s that won two 24hr Le Mans races and raced in three F1 races. Showcased are the team's  Jaguar D-Type and C-Type, along with the branded transporter bus parked in front of GlenAllachie Distillery.

Macduff 16: Pedro Ximenez Quarter Cask

Nose:
Sticky toffee pudding, strawberry jam, fresh leather
Taste:
Syruped figs, raisin danish, marmalade
Finish:
Lengthy, complex, sweet and sticky

For the artwork design on this double Macduff release, they have covered one fantastic tale across two different labels. They chose the Great Race to the North, a fierce competition of speed between Britain’s rival East Coast and West Coast railway lines. Each company fiercely competed for speed, offering express services between London and Edinburgh.


The PX artwork shows the West Coast Express, Lambie No. 17, operated by Caledonian Railway.

Islay Single Malt 15: Bourbon Barrel

Nose:
Smoked dunnage, bacon, fresh sea air, brine and citrus zest
Taste:
Cereal sweetness - like frosties, BBQ’d meat, slightly smokey and salty with crisp green apple and lemon
Finish:
Sweet, smoke and spice battle it out for a good length of finish

The label shows a view over industrial-era Glasgow, from the spire of Dowanhill Church.
